Time for a Change

We've lived in our house for six years. The other day, I was lying on the couch in my family room thinking, "I really want to change this room." (I've been wanting to since last year, but Davy wasn't hip on the idea.) Well that night, Davy came home from work and said, "I think we should paint this room, put up new chair rail, and crown molding." What did my delighted ears just hear? So two days before leaving for Bear Lake, we began our home improvement project. Here's what it looked like before:

And here's what it looks like now:

I LOVE IT! It feels so different than the red. Amazing what color can do. We put up new chair rail, crown molding, painted, and stained our furniture. It's amazing what you can figure out how to do. Davy and I are the next Design Stars :) Now for the story about the couch. I hated my old red couch. I knew we couldn't get a new one, but I couldn't stand the thought of having a beautiful new room with that ugly red couch. So I told Davy that I wanted to reupholster it. He looked at me and said he didn't think it would turn out well. That lit a fire in me and ticked me off a little. How dare he think I couldn't do it. So I went to IKEA bought curtains, asked Mom and Kes to help, and went to town. Thank you to Mom for the zipper help, Kes for the pintucking, Ryan for the stapling, and yes of course, Davy for the finishing of it last night. Needless, to say he had to eat his words because it turned out wonderful if I do say so myself.

Our lesson on Sunday was on Provident Living and doing things yourself to save money. Well, after $150 and a little hard work, I have a brand new couch. Now, I don't want to sit on it for fear of getting it dirty. Sorry Porter, no more snacks on the couch.

It was a great project and even better now that it is done. I'm so glad to have a brand new room to relax in. Ta Da!

Lisa - I LOVE it! It looks like a before and after on HGTV! I will start looking for fabric. My 13 year old couch and love seat need some love, since there will be no new furniture after Sunday's talk.
